Privity's Founder Entrepreneurial Journey

Privity’s Founder Entrepreneurial Journey

I’ve always been obsessed with the big picture—how numbers, technology, and a refusal to accept “that’s impossible” can change the world. I started out as a mathematician, studying at Oxford (M.A. (Hons) Mathematics, 1981) and completing the Part III Mathematical Tripos at Cambridge (1982). That background gave me the framework to tackle complex challenges—and frankly, a taste for disruption.

I jumped into finance in London and spent 11 years leading the Japanese Equity & Equity Derivatives Group at Nikko Europe plc. In 1995, I set out on my own and built Hasan Financial Corporation Ltd (HFC), specializing in Japanese equities and derivatives. Over nearly a quarter century, HFC grew into a respected, FCA-regulated firm—then I sold it in early 2020 to a Swiss family office. Mission accomplished, but I wasn’t done shaking things up.

I moved to Dubai in 2004 and launched Privity FZ LLE because I believe the future belongs to those bold enough to build it. No borders, no rigid sectors—just big, crazy ideas with the potential to drive real impact. Over the last 16 years, we’ve backed 19 entrepreneurs from around the world. Sure, some ventures folded—risk is part of the deal—but we also notched 4.5 successful exits (and yes, there’s a story behind that “half exit” that I’ll happily share over coffee).

Privity is basically a launchpad for breakthroughs. We invest in technology, but more importantly, we invest in founders who think about solving giant problems and don’t flinch when things get tough. If you’re working on something audacious—something people say can’t be done—I want to hear about it. Because that’s where the magic happens.

Check out privitylle.com and let’s see how far we can push the limits together. After all, the only way to predict the future is to invent it—so let’s get started.
